The MTN Nigeria Foundation has announced its 2026 scholarship scheme, offering annual awards of ₦300,000 to outstanding students in public tertiary institutions across the country.
The scholarship covers tuition, books and living expenses and is renewable until graduation, provided beneficiaries maintain the required Cumulative Grade Point Average.
The scheme includes the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship, introduced in 2009, which targets 300-level students studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics courses with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 or its equivalent.
Also available is the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students, established in 2011, open to 200 and 300-level blind students in any discipline with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5.
In addition, the top 10 highest-scoring candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination automatically qualify for the scholarship, a category introduced in 2020 to reward academic excellence.
According to the Foundation, up to 400 new scholarships will be awarded under the 2026 cycle, while existing beneficiaries will have their awards renewed based on academic performance. The scholarship amount was increased from ₦200,000 to ₦300,000 in 2024.
Since its inception in 2009, the initiative has awarded 13,717 scholarships to 4,949 scholars nationwide, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals on Quality Education, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
Eligible students are required to apply through the official MTN Foundation scholarship portal, while prospective applicants are advised to monitor the Foundation’s website for updates on application timelines.
