Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to equipping school administrators and teachers with the skills required to compete globally.
The Governor made this known at the opening of a two-day capacity-building workshop organised by the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) for principals, vice principals, and teachers in public secondary schools across the state.
The workshop, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, focused on strengthening leadership and management capacity within schools.
Represented by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, Governor Abiodun described education as the most enduring investment any government can make. He emphasised that competent leadership and inspired teachers remain central to meaningful transformation in the sector.
“Our principals and vice principals constitute the administrative engine of our schools, while teachers shape intellect, character, and civic consciousness. When sound leadership aligns with effective classroom delivery, excellence becomes inevitable,” he stated.
Chairman of Ogun TESCOM, Biodun Sanyaolu, noted that global best practices must be integrated into school administration and teaching to meet contemporary demands. He explained that the workshop theme, “One Vision, One Team: Driving Excellence Through Unified Leadership and Management,” reflects deliberate efforts to align leadership structures, strengthen management capacity, and improve measurable performance indicators across public secondary schools.
“This gathering is a call to synergy and commitment, a call to professionalism and renewed dedication among principals, vice principals, and teachers in our dear state,” Sanyaolu said.
Commissioner III in TESCOM and Chairman of the Training Committee, Olanrewaju Majekodunmi, stated that the theme was carefully selected to foster unity among school leaders as a foundation for sustainable educational progress.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, underscored the importance of continuous training, retraining, and improved welfare for stakeholders in the education sector. He urged participants to maximise the opportunity to enhance their professional performance.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, Mr. Akintomiwa Osibodu, explained that the workshop was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and modern strategies in collaborative leadership, effective school administration, public service ethics, and the integration of Information and Communication Technology and Artificial Intelligence into teaching and learning.
The President of the All Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Ogun State chapter, Mr. Alaba Olugbewesa, commended the state government for organising the initiative and encouraged members to support ongoing reforms.
Responding on behalf of participants, Mrs. Abimbola Koya, Principal of Ilewo Community High School, Abeokuta North Local Government, and Mr. Sunday Babatunde, Vice Principal of Orílẹ̀ Imo High School, Obafemi Owode Local Government, described the workshop as timely and essential for career growth and improved service delivery.
