Ekiti State College of Technology, Ijero-Ekiti, has recorded a significant milestone in its academic expansion following the approval of new programmes and accreditation of existing ones by the National Board for Technical Education. The development is expected to strengthen the institution’s capacity to deliver specialised technical and health-related education in line with national manpower needs.
According to official communication from the regulatory body, the approval allows the institution to commence five new academic programmes in the 2025/2026 academic session. The decision followed a comprehensive resource inspection conducted by NBTE between December 9 and 10, 2025, during which facilities, staffing and instructional capacity were assessed.
The newly approved programmes reflect the institution’s strategic focus on expanding into health sciences and emerging technology fields, both of which are critical to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Newly approved programmes include:
1. National Diploma (ND) Medical Laboratory Technology
2. National Diploma (ND) Orthopedic Cast Technology
3. National Diploma (ND) Health Education and Promotion
4. National Diploma (ND) Medical Imaging Technology
5. Higher National Diploma (HND) Networking and Cloud Computing
In addition to approving new courses, the NBTE also granted full accreditation to five existing programmes offered by the institution, further affirming its compliance with national academic standards.
Accredited programmes include:
1. National Diploma (ND) Dental Surgery
2. National Diploma (ND) Dental Therapy
3. National Diploma (ND) Community Health
4. National Diploma (ND) Public Health Technology
5. National Diploma (ND) Paramedics
The approval and accreditation were conveyed in a letter signed by Pharm. Ibrahim Salihu, Acting Director of the Nursing and Health Sciences Programmes Department of the NBTE. The letter noted that the decision was based on the satisfactory outcome of the resource verification exercise carried out by the board.
Reacting to the development, the Rector of Ekiti State College of Technology, Dr. Olufemi Olubamise, commended the NBTE for its rigorous evaluation process. He described the approval as a validation of the institution’s commitment to maintaining high standards in teaching, infrastructure and professional training.
With these new approvals, Ekiti State College of Technology reaffirmed its commitment to producing competent graduates equipped with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to contribute meaningfully to national development.
