The Fountain University, Osogbo has approved the implementation of the Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) salary structure, marking a major step toward improving staff welfare and institutional competitiveness. The decision reflects a growing trend among private universities to align with national standards in staff remuneration.
The approval was reached during a meeting of the Governing Council held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, under the leadership of Chairman, Awa Ibraheem. The resolution was subsequently communicated to the university community by the Vice-Chancellor, Olayinka Ramota Karim.
Announcing the development, Professor Karim described the move as a strategic and people-oriented intervention designed to enhance staff motivation and ensure equity within the institution’s remuneration framework. She noted that the adoption of the FGN-ASUU structure places the university in alignment with prevailing standards across Nigeria’s university system.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the decision underscores the Governing Council’s responsiveness to staff concerns and its commitment to fostering a conducive academic environment. She emphasised that prioritising staff welfare remains central to sustaining institutional growth and maintaining high standards of teaching, research, and service delivery.
Professor Karim further explained that improved remuneration is essential for attracting and retaining highly qualified academic and non-academic staff, particularly in an increasingly competitive higher education landscape. She added that the new structure is expected to boost morale, enhance productivity, and strengthen overall institutional performance.
The Council, she revealed, carefully evaluated the financial implications of implementing the salary structure before granting approval. It expressed confidence that the university possesses the capacity to sustain the initiative through prudent financial management and strategic planning.
Beyond immediate welfare benefits, the decision is seen as part of a broader effort to position Fountain University as a forward-looking institution committed to fairness, excellence, and staff development. University officials believe that such reforms will further enhance its reputation within Nigeria’s private university sector.
The adoption of the FGN-ASUU salary structure represents a significant milestone in the university’s evolution, reinforcing its dedication to building a supportive and enabling work environment where staff can thrive and contribute meaningfully to academic excellence and institutional progress.
