The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has appointed Professor Chika Yinka-Banjo as the pioneer Director of the Artificial Intelligence University Innovation Pod (AI UniPod).
Professor Yinka-Banjo, a Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in the Department of Artificial Intelligent Systems and Robotics, Faculty of Computing and Informatics, will serve a two-year term.
According to the university, the appointment takes effect from March 16, 2026, and will run until March 15, 2028.
Professor Yinka-Banjo is also the coordinator of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Lab (AIRLAB) at UNILAG and is widely recognized for her work in artificial intelligence, robotics, data science, and intelligent systems.
The university noted that her appointment is expected to strengthen the AI UniPod as a hub for cutting-edge research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of artificial intelligence solutions to address real-world challenges.
Reacting to the appointment, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, congratulated Professor Yinka-Banjo on behalf of the university community and wished her a successful tenure.
