Lead City University has emerged winner of a keenly contested inter-universities debate competition held at Fountain University, outperforming eight other tertiary institutions in a high-level intellectual showdown.
The competition, which took place on April 29, 2026, featured a compelling motion titled: “The media is responsible for the rise of moral decadence among youths.” The event attracted strong participation from leading Nigerian universities, including the University of Ibadan, Redeemer’s University, Osun State University, and others.
At the end of the intense intellectual contest, Lead City University secured first place with an impressive score of 84.6%, edging out other competitors in what judges described as a highly competitive and thought-provoking debate.
Redeemer’s University placed second with 77%, while Osun State University followed with 71.4%. Fountain University scored 70.9%, and the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun recorded 70.5%. Other participants included Al-Hikmah University with 67.1% and the University of Ibadan with 63.3%.
A standout moment of the competition was the recognition of Bodunde Ebenezer Olayemi of Lead City University, who was awarded Best Speaker Overall for his exceptional articulation, logical reasoning, and command of argumentation.
The Lead City University team also included Khaerat Muhammed-Raji and Sharon Chimuayan Azaka, whose coordinated delivery contributed significantly to the institution’s overall victory.
The team was guided by their coaches, Dr. Anthony Amedu and Miss Deborah Anuoluwapo Demurin, alongside support from the Lead City Intellectual and Debating Society, led by Abraham Adeniyi.
Reacting to the achievement, members of the university community described the victory as a reflection of the institution’s growing strength in public speaking, critical thinking, and student intellectual development.
The success at the debate competition adds to Lead City University’s reputation for academic excellence and active student engagement in intellectual and leadership development platforms across Nigeria.
