The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has advised Corps Members to exercise caution and responsibility in their use of social media during their service year.
He urged members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II to use digital platforms to promote national unity and uphold the values of the scheme, stressing that their online conduct should reflect discipline and neutrality.
Speaking at orientation camps in Kubwa and Keffi, Nafiu also informed Corps Members that they would play a role in the 2027 general elections, noting that they must remain non-partisan at all times.
He emphasised that beyond their electoral responsibilities, the service year offers an opportunity to build lasting relationships and understand Nigeria’s diversity through interaction with people from different backgrounds.
The NYSC boss encouraged Corps Members to actively participate in the Skills and Entrepreneurship Development programme, describing it as a pathway to financial independence and post-service opportunities.
He also advised them to adopt a savings culture, noting that prudent financial management during the service year would be beneficial in the long term.
Nafiu further called on Corps Members to contribute meaningfully to their host communities through development initiatives, urging them to build on the legacies of past participants in the scheme.
Providing updates on camp registration, FCT Coordinator Samson Ateli said 6,225 Corps Members were registered in the territory, while the Nasarawa State Coordinator, Salamatu Muhammad, disclosed that 2,679 Corps Members registered at the Keffi camp, including 796 deployed to the FCT.
