A new chapter has begun at the Tai Solarin Federal University of Education as Professor Samuel Ekundayo Oladipo officially assumed duty as the institution’s 6th substantive Vice-Chancellor, setting an ambitious agenda to reposition the university for global relevance.
Prof. Oladipo, who resumed office on May 5, 2026, also becomes the third indigenous Vice-Chancellor of the institution, marking a significant leadership milestone in its evolving history.
Addressing members of the university community shortly after assuming office, the new Vice-Chancellor called for collective support, urging staff, students, and stakeholders to unite in advancing the institution’s growth and transformation.
He traced the university’s evolution from its early days as Ogun State College of Education to Tai Solarin College of Education, later Tai Solarin University of Education, and now its current status as a federal university, describing the institution as “a heritage from God that can never be destroyed.”
Reflecting on past challenges, Oladipo recalled moments when the institution faced existential threats, noting that it survived due to the intervention of “Almighty God and the good people of Ogun State.”
The Vice-Chancellor assured the university community of inclusive leadership, declaring that his administration would remain accessible and open to ideas that can move the institution forward.
“To those who competed with me for the office, there is no victor or vanquish,” he said, extending a hand of unity to all stakeholders.
In a major policy direction, Prof. Oladipo unveiled a five-year strategic roadmap tagged “TASFUED Vision (2026–2031)”, aimed at repositioning the university among the top-ranking institutions in Nigeria, Africa, and globally.
According to him, the university is targeting a place among the top 25 universities in Nigeria, top 100 in Africa, and top 3,000 in global rankings by the year 2031.
Currently ranked between 55th and 72nd in Nigeria, 446th in Africa, and beyond 6,000th globally, the Vice-Chancellor described the roadmap as a “defining moment” that would reshape the institution’s future.
Central to the transformation agenda is the STAR-WIN framework, a seven-pillar development strategy designed to drive sustainable growth across key sectors of the university.
The pillars include sustainable funding and smart governance; technology and digital transformation; academic excellence and innovation; research productivity and global rankings; staff and student welfare; infrastructure development; and strengthened national, alumni, and international relations.
A Professor of Guidance and Counselling, Oladipo explained that the plan would prioritise curriculum reviews aligned with global standards, the introduction of demand-driven academic programmes, expansion of vocational training, and pursuit of international accreditation.
On research development, he promised the introduction of internal seed grants, the upgrading of academic directorates, establishment of innovation hubs, and stronger intellectual property frameworks to boost research output and global competitiveness.
The Vice-Chancellor also outlined plans to improve staff welfare and student experience through enhanced incentives, expanded housing and hostel facilities, subsidised transportation, and comprehensive wellness programmes.
He further revealed that the administration would embark on the construction of new lecture halls and the upgrading of laboratories to meet international standards, in line with its goal of improving teaching and learning conditions.
Prof. Oladipo highlighted the institution’s unique status as Nigeria’s first University of Education, the second in Africa, and the eighth globally under the specialised 1–2–8 model, describing it as a foundation for greater achievements.
Expressing optimism about the future, he said the university would leverage institutional unity and strategic partnerships to achieve its vision of becoming a globally respected centre of excellence.
“We are entering a defining moment in the history of this institution. With cohesion and collaboration, TASFUED will emerge as a globally respected university distinguished by academic excellence, digital innovation, and sustainable financing,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor was formally received by members of the university management, including the Provost of the Postgraduate College, Deans, Directors, religious leaders, and representatives of the Students’ Union, all of whom pledged support for his administration.
