In a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Tuesday, the Ministry disclosed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has successfully transferred approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions for immediate payment to eligible beneficiaries.
According to the statement, the released funds represent 50 per cent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025 under the now-terminated BEA Scholarship Programme, while efforts are ongoing to facilitate the release of the remaining balance.
The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, stated that the funds had already reached the accounts of the affected embassies, adding that beneficiaries are expected to begin receiving payments accordingly.
“The affected embassies are expected to commence immediate payment to eligible scholars. Beneficiaries are therefore advised to monitor their accounts as payments are expected to begin reflecting accordingly,” the Minister said.
Dr. Alausa noted that the development reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to supporting Nigerian students abroad in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also commended the patience and resilience shown by affected scholars, assuring that the Federal Government remains committed to ensuring that no Nigerian student pursuing academic excellence under government scholarship schemes is left unsupported.
The Ministry further reaffirmed its dedication to fulfilling legitimate obligations to Nigerian scholars while sustaining policies and interventions aimed at promoting access to quality education, student welfare, and national development through human capital development.
