MThe National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed as fake a viral circular claiming that members of the 2026 Batch B Stream I would receive Point of Sale (POS) machines during their Passing-Out Parade as part of a Federal Government empowerment programme.
The document, which circulated widely on social media, purported to originate from the Office of the Director-General of the scheme. It directed state coordinators to collaborate with financial institutions and approved service providers to distribute POS machines to corps members alongside their certificates during the passing-out exercise.

The circular bore NYSC’s letterhead, a reference number, the date June 25, 2026, and the name of the Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, giving it the appearance of an official communication.
However, the NYSC has publicly disowned the document, branding it “FAKE NEWS” and circulating the debunked version to warn corps members and members of the public against relying on its contents.
The scheme advised corps members to disregard the circular, stressing that it did not issue any directive on the distribution of POS machines or any similar empowerment package.
The NYSC also urged the public to verify all official information through its recognised communication channels, including its official website and verified social media platforms, before sharing or acting on documents circulating online.
