Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, has strengthened its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action following the donation of 5,000 tree seedlings by the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), a development expected to expand the institution’s afforestation efforts and reinforce ecological conservation on campus.
The donation forms part of a strategic collaboration between the country’s foremost forestry research institution and the university to promote environmental stewardship, biodiversity conservation and sustainable land management through large-scale tree planting initiatives.
According to officials, the initiative involves the establishment of a 3.3-hectare plantation within the university, where the seedlings will be cultivated to improve the institution’s green landscape while contributing to national efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change.
The donation also aligns with Redeemer’s University’s broader environmental agenda, which has consistently prioritised tree planting, ecosystem restoration and sustainable campus development. In recent years, the institution has intensified programmes that encourage environmental responsibility among staff and students while integrating sustainability into its academic and community engagement activities.
Speaking during the presentation, representatives of FRIN reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to supporting educational institutions in promoting afforestation and environmental conservation across Nigeria.
