The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, April 10, awarded a cash prize of N10 million to the best graduating student of the Lagos State University (LASU), Miss Ojo Nwosu Isioma.
Nwosu, a Biochemistry graduate, emerged as the overall best graduating student with an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93, earning a first-class honours degree.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, at the 28th convocation ceremony of the institution, said the gesture was in recognition of academic excellence and part of efforts to encourage hard work among students.
He noted that the Lagos State Government remains committed to promoting quality education and creating an enabling environment for students to thrive.
“Education is the backbone of our society, and we must recognise its importance in addressing societal needs and human development,” he said.
“As leaders, we must ensure our educational system remains relevant and effective in providing innovative solutions to real-life problems,” the governor added.
Dr. Hamzat further stated that Miss Nwosu’s academic feat has brought pride to LASU and the entire state, describing her as a shining example of excellence.
He also revealed that the state government is working closely with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ensure students in the state have access to necessary financial support for their academic pursuits.
