The University of Ilorin has secured 100% full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for its academic programs. Out of 37 courses presented for accreditation, 36 secured full accreditation, while one got interim accreditation. The result of the accreditation exercise, carried out in October/November 2024, was contained in a letter dated April 30, 2025, and addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.
According to the NUC letter, signed on behalf of Prof. Ribadu by the NUC Ag. Director of Accreditation, Engr Abraham Chundusu, “36 courses were granted full accreditation status, while only one, Hausa, was granted interim accreditation. No course was denied accreditation.” This achievement is a testament to the University’s commitment to academic excellence.

The Faculty of Education excelled in the accreditation exercise, with all 17 academic programs presented securing full accreditation. The Faculty of Engineering and Technology also performed well, with Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering securing full accreditation. The Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences also had all their programs fully accredited.
The University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, expressed his excitement and sense of fulfilment over the achievement. According to him, “We are happy to be so recognised.” He thanked the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and all Faculty members who contributed to the success. Prof. Egbewole said, “It is our hope that we would continue to do our best to position the University for more recognitions.”
The University’s management, staff, and students received the news with excitement, knowing that it confirms the huge investment in human and material resources. The Vice Chancellor assured that the Administration would continue to appreciate the efforts of the academic staff.
The achievement is a significant milestone for the University, reinforcing its reputation as a premier institution of higher learning. With this accreditation, Unilorin has demonstrated its commitment to providing quality education to its students.
The University’s Spokesperson, Mr. Kunle Akogun, stated that the achievement would spur the University to do more to justify the recognition. Unilorin’s 100% full accreditation from NUC is a testament to its dedication to academic excellence, and it is expected to boost the confidence of students, parents, and stakeholders in the University’s programs.
