The management of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has formally addressed speculations surrounding the possibility of a mid-semester break for the ongoing 2025/2026 academic session. In a statement issued by the Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring on Friday, September 19, 2025, the university declared that no such break has been approved or scheduled.
The internal memo, signed by Professor Daud Mustafa, Director of the Directorate, was directed to the entire university community, including staff and students. The memo stressed that contrary to widespread rumours circulating within and outside the campus, the institution has no plans for a mid-semester break at this time.
According to the statement, “The Directorate wishes to state clearly to all members of the University Community that there is no mid-semester break as it is being speculated. All staff and students are hereby advised to stay on campus to continue all academic activities.” This clarification was necessary to ensure that the university calendar remains on track and free from disruptions.

The Nigeria Education News gathered that in recent weeks, conversations had intensified among students regarding a potential break, with some claiming that management was considering suspending academic activities temporarily. This, however, has now been officially dismissed, with the Directorate affirming that academic engagements will continue as planned.
FUDMA’s decision is seen as a move to maintain academic stability and avoid unnecessary interruptions to teaching and learning. Observers noted that unverified reports of breaks often lead to confusion among students and staff, sometimes resulting in reduced seriousness toward scheduled lectures and assignments.
Professor Mustafa, in his closing remarks within the memo, expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of staff and students. He encouraged the university community to disregard false speculations and remain focused on the core objectives of academic excellence and productivity.
The Nigeria Education News also learnt from some students that while a section of the student body had hoped for a break due to mounting academic pressure, others expressed relief at the clarification, noting that it will help them maintain momentum in their studies. Some staff members equally commended the management for acting swiftly to clear the air.
With this development, the Federal University Dutsin-Ma reaffirms its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted academic activities in the 2025/2026 session. The clarification serves as both a reassurance to parents and guardians and a call on the university community to uphold discipline, dedication, and focus on academic goals.
