Nigeria’s National Universities Commission (NUC) has issued a stern public announcement cautioning universities and affiliate institutions against participating in paid training and consultancy services offered by private organizations for its accreditation exercises.
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the commission explicitly stated that such activities are not organised or endorsed by the NUC. The regulatory body clarified that participation in these third-party programs has no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of official accreditation reviews.
The announcement, signed by the Ag. Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Franca Chukwuonwo, advises all institutions to rely solely on official guidelines and communication channels provided directly by the NUC. “The NUC remains committed to ensuring a transparent and credible accreditation process,” the statement read, urging all stakeholders to “exercise due diligence when engaging with third-party service providers.”
The NUC’s warning was issued on the same day a private firm, Kleandata Konsult, was scheduled to begin a two-day webinar titled “Harnessing Institutional Digital and Human Resources for Successful NUC Accreditation Exercise.” The online event, advertised at a fee of N20,000 per participant, was targeted at key university officials, including Vice-Chancellors, Directors of Academic Planning, and University Librarians.
The webinar’s promotional materials stated its goal was to help institutions “streamline processes, ensure compliance, drive sustainable academic quality and achieve full accreditation results,” a claim that is now directly contradicted by the NUC’s official position.
