The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to making technical education accessible to every Nigerian child by fully funding tuition and approved charges in all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) nationwide.
In a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, stressed that no principal or administrator is permitted to impose unauthorized levies on students. He warned that government bears the full cost of tuition and core charges, covering items such as boarding, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, ID cards, stationery, clubs and societies, medicals, vocational expenses, utilities, security, website/e-result services, Skool Media, extra lessons, and insurance.
Parents have been urged to report illegal demands directly to the Ministry through dedicated hotlines and email contacts provided.
Dr. Alausa clarified, however, that while tuition and approved fees are fully covered, students admitted into FTCs as boarders are still expected to provide certain personal and cleaning items. These include clothing, beddings, toiletries, mosquito nets, buckets, cutlery, rain boots, school shoes, and basic cleaning tools such as a hoe, cutlass, and broom.
The Minister said the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key driver of human capital development. By equipping young Nigerians with employable skills, he noted, the government aims to strengthen competitiveness and ensure sustainable national growth.
“No Nigerian child should be denied access to technical education because of illegal charges. By investing in education today, we are building a stronger, self-reliant Nigeria,” Dr. Alausa declared.
The Ministry assured that monitoring mechanisms are in place to swiftly address any infractions and that stakeholders are expected to safeguard the free-education policy. It emphasized that Federal Technical Colleges must fulfill their mandate of producing skilled graduates who can contribute meaningfully to national transformation.
The statement was signed by Borioowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education.
