The Young Leaders Network (YLN), in partnership with the Bauchi State Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, has reviewed the state’s second-quarter budget performance in the education sector.
The session, held under the Strengthening Advocacy for Girls’ Education Project funded by the Malala Fund, brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from ministries and agencies working in education.
Speaking at the meeting, YLN Executive Director, Seun Justin, said the review was necessary to ensure budget allocations align with education plans. He stressed that regular assessments would help the state avoid falling short of its education targets for 2025.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Director of Finance in the Ministry of Education, Rabi’u Kubdiya, emphasized the need for efficient allocation and management of resources to achieve sectoral goals. He also noted that the state’s budget performance must reflect contributions from the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, which has supported interventions in the sector.
A planning officer with the Ministry of Budget, Abubakar Usman, presented an overview of the second-quarter performance, citing progress in sustaining education funding but identifying delays in the release of funds as a major challenge.
At the end of the review, stakeholders observed that the cumulative education budget performance for the first and second quarters of 2025 stood at 23.02 per cent, which they described as inadequate. They called for stronger implementation strategies to bridge funding gaps and ensure the state meets its education targets.
