The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic chapter, has declared an indefinite strike effective Tuesday, September 30, 2025, following unresolved demands over the implementation of the Polytechnic Salary Structure and other welfare issues.
The latest action comes just three months after the union embarked on a one-week warning strike in June, which followed a two-week ultimatum issued on May 29 and expired on June 13. That strike was called to press home demands relating to salary structure and the retirement age for non-teaching staff.
Union officials said the decision to escalate the action to an indefinite strike was taken after repeated engagements with management and government authorities failed to yield meaningful results.
“We are left with no option but to declare an indefinite strike in pursuit of justice, fairness, and the implementation of the Polytechnic Salary Structure,” the chapter stated.
The strike is expected to paralyze academic and administrative activities at the polytechnic, raising fresh concerns among students and parents about the prolonged disruption of academic calendars across tertiary institutions.
