The Kano State Executive Council has approved ₦7.77 billion for major rehabilitation and infrastructure projects in the education sector. The approval came during the council’s 32nd meeting held on Friday, October 3, 2025, under the chairmanship of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The allocation represents one of the largest sectoral investments in the meeting and reflects the government’s continued drive to rebuild public schools and improve learning conditions across the state.
Projects approved include the general rehabilitation of Government Technical College, Kano, at ₦1.46 billion, and Government Day Science College, Kano, at ₦905 million. The council also approved ₦397.6 million for the renovation of Government Secondary School, Rimi, in Sumaila Local Government Area, and ₦349.5 million for the School for Arabic Studies, Kano Municipal.
Boarding school feeding suppliers will receive ₦1.73 billion in settlements, while ₦1.89 billion has been earmarked for classroom renovation and furniture provision in basic schools across all 44 local government areas under the Community Re-orientation Committees (CRC).
Other education-related approvals include ₦131.5 million for the supply of chalk to basic and post-basic schools, ₦158.4 million for land acquisition and expansion of selected secondary schools, and ₦546.5 million for renovation works at Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Thomas Dambatta.
The council also endorsed a policy directive for the general renovation of Local Education Authority (LEA) offices in all local government areas to strengthen administration and supervision at the basic education level.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring the state’s reputation as a leading centre of learning in Northern Nigeria.
The meeting also featured the swearing-in of new commissioners and recognition of the governor’s contributions to education, including an award from the Colleges of Education Staff Union (COESU), North-West Zone, for his leadership in revitalising the sector.
