Prospective students of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) have taken to social media to express widespread frustration over significant delays, technical errors, and a perceived lack of communication surrounding the 2025/2026 admission exercise, prompting a response from the university’s admissions office.
Aspirants have reported a series of issues that have heightened their anxiety as the deadline for federal institutions to conclude admissions, reportedly set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for this month, draws near.
A central point of contention has been a technical glitch on the university’s online portal. Many candidates reported that their screening score was either not displaying or incorrectly showing a value of “0/50”. While an update circulating online suggests the issue is being resolved and advises affected students to recheck their portals, the initial error caused significant distress.
Candidates who used National Examinations Council (NECO) results were particularly vocal. An X user, @angelobi, pleaded with the university, stating, “Please candidates that uploaded NECO haven’t seen screening score, kindly refresh your portal so that NECO candidates have a fair and equal chance with other candidates.” Another user, @bash_legacy, echoed this concern, worrying that the delay could cause high-scoring applicants to lose their desired courses.
The slow pace of the admission process has been a recurring theme, with many describing the wait as “depressing” and “worrisome.” @DAREAl_PRECIOUS captured the sentiment of many, writing, “Pls how long will it take for the merit admission list to be released, this process is too slow, it’s depressing us. We have aspirants waiting, praying some even loosing hope.”
This prolonged uncertainty has also raised fears of exploitation. User @TheMSM_CM warned that the tension could make aspirants “gullible to scammers who would want to feed of their desperation.” Concerns over transparency were also raised, with @DeeUnique06 alleging, “Now, they might ask candidates to change from their preferred courses to other courses, claiming their preferred courses are filled up already. Yet they offer admission underground.”
In response to the growing concerns, the University of Abuja’s Admissions Office has released several updates. A recent notice confirmed that NECO results have now been successfully uploaded to the portal. The university advised candidates who had started their registration but couldn’t complete it due to awaiting results to log in and finalize their application, clarifying that this only applies to those who had paid the pre-screening fee before the deadline.
Furthermore, the university issued an important update on the admission exercise, directing all applicants to regularly check their JAMB portal for their admission status. According to the statement, candidates who have been offered admission by JAMB must first accept it and print their admission letter before proceeding to the university’s portal for further instructions.
The university also issued a stern warning against corruption in the admission process. “Admission into the University of Abuja is not for sale,” the statement read. “Do not offer or give any bribe for admission. Anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.”
Despite these official communications, the disconnect between admission statuses on the JAMB and university portals remains a source of confusion. “JAMB has given me admission why isn’t it showing on the school portal? Almost a week now,” lamented @Prexxie9508.
While the university’s updates aim to address the technical glitch and clarify the procedure, thousands of aspirants remain on edge, calling for greater speed and transparency to conclude an admission cycle that many feel has been fraught with unnecessary delays and anxiety.
