Redeemer’s University, Ede, has announced that a total of 1,341 undergraduates will be graduating during its 17th Convocation Ceremony scheduled for October 9, 2025, with an impressive 185 students earning first-class honours. The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Shadrach Akindele, made this known at a press conference held on Monday to mark both the 17th Convocation and the 20th Anniversary of the university.
According to Professor Akindele, the convocation ceremony is particularly significant as it represents a dual celebration of academic excellence and two decades of divine progress for the faith-based institution. “This year’s convocation is special. We are not only graduating another distinguished class, ‘The Indomitable Set,’ but we are also celebrating 20 years of Redeemer’s University. Indeed, this is a season of double honour, and we return all glory to God,” the Vice-Chancellor declared.
Breaking down the statistics, Akindele revealed that 662 students will graduate with Second-Class Upper Division, 410 with Second-Class Lower Division, 79 with Third-Class degrees, and five with Pass degrees. He added that the university remains committed to academic excellence and holistic education, which continues to reflect in its students’ performance across disciplines.
The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that the overall best graduating student, Joel Durigbo from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, achieved an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0 a perfect score that underscores the university’s culture of diligence, discipline, and devotion to excellence.
In addition to undergraduate degrees, the institution will also confer 338 postgraduate degrees and diplomas during the postgraduate convocation scheduled for October 10. Professor Akindele explained that 109 students will receive Postgraduate Diplomas, 65 will earn Master of Arts degrees, 120 will bag Master of Science degrees, 25 will receive Master of Business Administration degrees, and 19 will be awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.
Highlighting the institution’s growing national and international reputation, Akindele announced that Redeemer’s University has recently been selected by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as one of only eight private universities in Nigeria approved to train TETFund-sponsored candidates for postgraduate studies. “This is a very remarkable feat, especially considering that there are 168 private universities in the country at the moment,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor also noted that Redeemer’s University had achieved global recognition through the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, where it emerged as number two in Nigeria and ranked first in several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This, he said, is a testament to the institution’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and impactful scholarship.
Akindele went on to unveil that during the convocation, three distinguished Nigerians will be conferred with honorary degrees for their outstanding contributions to humanity and nation-building. The awardees include Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, wife of the former governor of Kwara State; Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, President of Mount Zion Faith Ministries; and Mr. Kola Adeshina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Group.
“These individuals have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and a strong sense of responsibility to society, which aligns perfectly with our institutional values. Their recognition is both an inspiration to our graduating students and a call to serve humanity selflessly,” the VC added.
Reflecting on the university’s journey since its establishment in 2005, Akindele described Redeemer’s University as a shining beacon of faith-driven scholarship. He emphasized that the university’s progress over two decades had been characterized by steady infrastructural development, research breakthroughs, and spiritual growth among students and staff.
He attributed these milestones to the vision of the university’s founder, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), whose leadership and support, he said, have remained pivotal in sustaining the university’s mission of raising “champions for the end-time harvest.”
The Vice-Chancellor also reiterated the university’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates equipped with both intellectual and moral strength. He assured parents and stakeholders that Redeemer’s University will continue to invest in quality education, technology-driven learning, and character formation.
The convocation ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries from academia, government, the clergy, and the private sector. As the institution celebrates its 20th anniversary, the mood across the Ede campus remains one of excitement and thanksgiving, with staff and students reflecting proudly on two decades of divine excellence and academic distinction.
With 185 first-class graduates, a perfect-score valedictorian, and a global academic ranking that places it among Nigeria’s top-performing universities, Redeemer’s University continues to affirm its status as a leading light in faith-based higher education a testimony to vision, perseverance, and grace.
