The Federal University of Health Sciences Ila Orangun (FUHSI) has held a sensitisation programme for its pioneer MBBS students, with a strong focus on academic resilience, mental well-being, and performance improvement following the release of examination results.
The session, held on April 28, 2026, brought together senior academic and administrative leaders who urged students to remain focused and see academic setbacks as part of the learning process rather than a permanent setback.
Speaking at the event, key officials including the Sub-Dean of Students Affairs, Zainab Oduola, and the Director of Academic Planning, Simiat Jimoh, encouraged students to embrace discipline and consistency as they navigate the demanding medical programme.
Also addressing the students, the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Folarin Malomo, and the Provost of the College of Medicine, Oyeku Oyelami, reminded them that examination outcomes are not final judgments of ability, but stepping stones toward professional growth.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Monsuru Adeleke, reinforced this message, urging students to develop mental strength, academic discipline, and the courage to improve where necessary, especially as the university continues to set high standards for its pioneer cohort.
He noted that the institution remains committed to producing world-class medical professionals, adding that resilience is a key trait required for success in the medical field.
Students were advised to remain focused and positive, particularly in light of the recently released and approved examination results, which marked an important milestone in the academic journey of the pioneer MBBS set.
Those who did not perform as expected were encouraged to use the outcome as motivation to work harder, seek academic support, and improve in subsequent assessments.
A major highlight of the event was the recognition of outstanding students who achieved distinction grades in key foundational courses such as Physiology and Biochemistry.
Among the awardees were students identified as 2022/MBBS/037, 2022/MBBS/058, 2022/MBBS/062, 2022/MBBS/076, 2022/MBBS/080, 2022/MBBS/096, and 2022/MBBS/067, with Bakiyah Okedeji emerging as the overall best performer across Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry.
The sensitisation programme was widely seen as part of FUHSI’s broader commitment to academic excellence, student welfare, and the development of a strong foundation for its pioneer medical students.
University officials reiterated that while the MBBS journey is demanding, the institution will continue to provide guidance and support systems to help students succeed.
As the pioneer cohort progresses, the university says it remains focused on building not just academic competence, but also resilience and character in future medical professionals.
