The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Kwara State Command, has continued its statewide campaign on fire prevention and safety awareness with a sensitization visit to Az-Zumratul Adabiyyatul Kamaliyyah School for Arabic and Islamic Studies, Okekere, Ilorin.
The outreach, held on Wednesday, was part of the Command’s ongoing effort to promote safety consciousness and reduce fire incidents across the state. The exercise was conducted under the directive of the State Controller, Assistant Controller of Fire (ACF) Mary Bakare.
Speaking during the campaign, ASF II Abdulwahab Musa emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness among students, explaining the causes, effects, preventive measures, and control of fire outbreaks. He noted that schools are particularly prone to fire incidents, hence the need for regular orientation and preparedness.
Also addressing the students, ASF II Isiaq Muhammad discussed the stages of fire development and the importance of understanding safety procedures for effective prevention and control both within schools and other public spaces.
ASF II Ayinla Haliru and ASF II Ameen Lateefat took participants through practical sessions on fire extinguishment, demonstrating the proper use of fire extinguishers. They stressed the importance of having functional extinguishers in schools, homes, and offices to tackle fire at its early stages.
In his remarks, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASF I Jimoh Modibbo Ibrahim, urged students to apply the knowledge gained, remain alert to potential hazards, and always prioritize safety. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to continuous engagement with schools and organizations across Kwara to build a strong culture of fire prevention.
The Principal of the school, Sheikh Abdulhamid Yusuf Aliy, expressed appreciation to the Fire Service for the initiative and called for continued collaboration. He also introduced the officers to the Grand Khalifah of the Adabiyyah Association of Nigeria, As-Sheikh Abdulqadir Kamalud-deen Al-Adabiy, who commended the Command for its proactive approach to public enlightenment.
The exercise concluded with practical demonstrations on the use of fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and other firefighting tools, leaving students and staff better informed on how to respond to fire emergencies.
