The Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, on Monday held a detailed debriefing session for corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko. The session was part of the preparations ahead of the official closing of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course, scheduled for Tuesday.
During the session, Mrs. Bakare addressed critical issues relating to deployment procedures, welfare, discipline, community integration, security, and expectations after the camp. She emphasized the importance of approaching their postings with a positive mindset, highlighting that every assignment presents an opportunity for personal growth and societal impact.
“Accept your posting in good faith. Report immediately to your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) as directed. Arrangements have been made for safe transportation, and our Local Government Inspectors will accompany you to the respective LGAs,” she said.
The State Coordinator also stressed the importance of personal safety, warning corps members against late-night travel and urging them to patronize only registered motor parks and recognized transport operators. She advised vigilance and careful decision-making as indispensable for a successful service year.
On discipline, Mrs. Bakare reminded the corps members to uphold the dignity of the NYSC and avoid actions that could tarnish their image, that of their families, or the institutions that trained them. “Acts of truancy, negligence, and other vices have serious consequences. Conduct yourselves responsibly and maintain the honor of the NYSC uniform wherever you find yourselves,” she stated.
Mrs. Bakare further highlighted the significance of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmes at the Local Government level. She described SAED as a “reliable pathway to self-reliance and post-service economic empowerment,” stressing that the scheme equips young Nigerians with practical skills and the capacity to become employers of labour.
In recognition of exemplary service, the State Coordinator presented letters of commendation to three Corps Camp Directors for their dedication and outstanding performance in the administration of the orientation exercise. Their efforts, she noted, contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the programme.
She also extended appreciation to camp officials, security agencies, and collaborating partners whose support ensured the orientation exercise was successful and incident-free. The collaborative effort, she emphasized, was crucial to maintaining high standards of discipline, welfare, and operational efficiency.
The 2025 Batch ‘C’ corps members were urged to view their national service as an opportunity to positively impact their host communities while growing personally and professionally. Mrs. Bakare highlighted that the NYSC scheme fosters national unity, civic responsibility, and a sense of patriotism among young Nigerians.
She encouraged corps members to maintain the values of integrity, dedication, and accountability throughout their service year. By doing so, she said, they would leave a lasting legacy and contribute meaningfully to societal development in their respective states.
As the camp prepares for the official closing ceremony, Mrs. Bakare reminded participants to remain vigilant, focused, and committed to their responsibilities. She reinforced that the guidance provided during the debrief is essential for a productive and fulfilling service year.
The 2025 Batch ‘C’ corps members are expected to depart the orientation camp immediately following the closing ceremony on Tuesday morning, marking the official commencement of their service across various local government areas in Ondo State and beyond.
