Mountain Top University (MTU), Ogun State, has announced Miss Akinyemi Omolola Faith of the Department of Mathematics as its best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, following her outstanding academic performance with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.94.
The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elijah Ayolabi, during a pre-convocation press briefing held on Monday, ahead of the university’s seventh Convocation Ceremony and 10th anniversary celebration scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Prof. Ayolabi described Miss Akinyemi’s achievement as exceptional and reflective of Mountain Top University’s strong emphasis on academic discipline, excellence, and character development. He noted that her performance represents the highest standard of scholarship attainable at the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that a total of 346 students would be graduating during the convocation ceremony across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Among the undergraduate graduates, 42 students earned First Class honours, 124 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 102 obtained Second Class Lower Division, while 14 graduated with Third Class degrees.
He further revealed that 64 postgraduate students would also be awarded degrees at the ceremony. This number includes nine Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) graduates, 28 Master’s degree recipients, two Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduates, and 25 Postgraduate Diploma holders.
Speaking on the university’s academic and research profile, Prof. Ayolabi highlighted MTU’s impressive performance in global rankings. He stated that the institution ranked first in Nigeria for Quality Education (Sustainable Development Goal 4), second for Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), and third for Zero Hunger (SDG 2) in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.
According to him, these rankings reflect the university’s growing commitment to impactful research, quality teaching, and solutions-oriented scholarship aligned with global development goals.
Prof. Ayolabi also emphasized MTU’s expanding research capacity, citing the award of a €500,000 Max Planck–Humboldt Grant to a faculty member for the establishment of a cancer genomics laboratory. He described the grant as a major milestone that positions the university as a rising research hub in biomedical sciences.
In addition, he noted that Mountain Top University continues to strengthen international collaborations, with active partnerships involving universities and research institutions across the United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia. According to him, these collaborations are aimed at enhancing research output, staff development, and global academic visibility.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that the upcoming convocation and anniversary celebration would not only honour graduating students but also showcase MTU’s steady growth, academic achievements, and contributions to national and global development.
