The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its partnership with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), pledging continued support for the expansion of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in the state. This commitment was made by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a meeting with the state Coordinator of JAMB, Dr. Diana Obiano, in her office in Awka.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh described JAMB as an integral component of the state’s education system, emphasizing the crucial role it plays in conducting qualifying examinations and placing successful candidates into tertiary institutions. She acknowledged the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s recognition of JAMB’s contributions to the state’s education sector.
“I commended JAMB for establishing a 450-capacity CBT centre in the state and want to assure you that the government is ready to support the establishment of additional centres to improve access and efficiency for candidates,” Prof. Chuma-Udeh said.
Earlier, Dr. Obiano had highlighted Anambra’s status as a major academic hub in the South-East, citing the high number of applicants from the state and their strong performance in examinations. She attributed this success to the state government’s emphasis on quality education under Governor Soludo’s administration.
According to Obiano, JAMB has contributed significantly to the state’s educational development through the establishment of the CBT centre at Amawbia, which has a capacity of 450 candidates. This facility has enhanced the examination process, making it more efficient and accessible to candidates.
Obiano reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the Ministry of Education to ensure seamless registration and examination processes. She noted that JAMB had carried out extensive sensitization programmes for secondary school students in rural and urban areas, educating them on the registration procedures for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at CBT centres ahead of the April examinations.
The JAMB coordinator appealed to the state government for support in providing official vehicles to enable access to hard-to-reach areas, facilitating the examination process. She also sought assistance for the renovation of offices and the construction of holding halls at the Amawbia headquarters to accommodate the growing number of candidates during registration and examinations.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh assured Obiano that the state government would consider JAMB’s requests, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in driving educational development. She reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the education sector and providing necessary support to institutions like JAMB.
The meeting highlighted the strong partnership between Anambra State and JAMB, aimed at enhancing the quality of education and examination processes in the state. As the state continues to prioritize education, this collaboration is expected to yield positive outcomes for students and the education sector as a whole.
