The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin-Ekiti, has taken a significant step in its academic journey. The University Senate, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, has approved a five-year duration for all undergraduate programs, aligning with national regulatory standards and the institution’s technological focus.
“This is a historic moment in the life of a university that was created less than a year ago but has already commenced full academic activities,” Prof. Aribisala said. The decision provides a clear academic direction and institutional stability, paving the way for FUTES to achieve global relevance.
The Senate also approved the 2025/2026 academic calendar, with academic activities scheduled to proceed accordingly. The first semester examinations are set for April 2026, and the first matriculation ceremony is fixed for February 27, 2026.
Prof. Aribisala emphasized that FUTES would be built on excellent teaching, impactful research, and meaningful community service. “This university is not about personal aggrandizement. It is about legacy. What we are building here must stand the test of time,” he stated.
The University Senate gave concurrence to the pre-degree program, charging management to ensure quality delivery and adherence to standards. Membership of key committees was also approved, including those on quality assurance, ranking, and research.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that efforts are ongoing to create a conducive learning environment, with arrangements underway to enroll students under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme. Infrastructure development is also a priority, with plans to connect the university to the national grid and provide solar power solutions.
Students are central to FUTES’ development agenda, and the university is committed to mentoring, character development, and leadership grooming. Discipline, punctuality, and academic integrity will be enforced to sustain excellence.
The Senate commended Prof. Aribisala for his visionary leadership, noting that his experience has accelerated FUTES’ take-off and positioned the university for global relevance.
