The Lagos State Government has hosted a special reception in honour of student-athletes who represented the state at the World School Games and African Youth Games, where they recorded notable achievements.
The reception, held at the Lagos House, Marina, celebrated the athletes for bringing recognition to Lagos State and Nigeria through their performances at the international competitions.
In his opening remarks, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, commended the student-athletes for their resilience, discipline, and dedication.
Fatodu said the achievements of the athletes reflect the impact of the state government’s efforts to develop grassroots sports and position Lagos as a centre for sporting excellence.

Speaking at the event, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised the athletes for their outstanding performance, describing their success as a proud moment for the state.
He noted that the achievements demonstrate the potential of young people in Lagos when given the right opportunities and support.
The governor also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continued investment in youth development and sports infrastructure to help nurture future champions.
According to him, strategic partnerships and sustained support for sports development will create more opportunities for talented young athletes to excel both locally and internationally.
The event ended with the presentation of commendations to the athletes, as the state government celebrated their contributions and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence.
The reception highlighted Lagos State’s commitment to supporting young talents and promoting sports as a pathway for youth development and global recognition.
