The Federal Ministry of Education has opened applications for the second cohort of its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme for 2026.
The ministry said the initiative is designed to equip Nigerians with practical vocational and technical skills to enhance employment opportunities and support entrepreneurship.
According to the programme details, applications are open to all Nigerians, including job seekers, school leavers, graduates, and skilled individuals, with no strict educational requirements.
Applicants are required to provide their Bank Verification Number and National Identification Number, alongside basic personal information, while proof of prior education or training is optional.
Selected participants are expected to receive a monthly stipend of ₦22,500, in addition to free vocational training, recognised certification, starter packs, and career support upon completion.
However, reactions on X have raised concerns over the implementation of the programme, particularly regarding payment delays and access to the application portal.
Some users alleged that participants in the first cohort are yet to receive stipends, while others claimed that payments have been inconsistent since the programme began earlier in the year.
“There are participants who have not been paid since January,” one user said, while another called for the settlement of outstanding allowances for earlier batches.
Other applicants also reported technical difficulties, including challenges accessing the registration portal and completing new applications.
The concerns highlight growing public scrutiny over the programme’s execution, even as the government moves to expand access to vocational training across the country.
