Lead City University, Ibadan, has begun its much-anticipated 17th convocation ceremony, a three-day event celebrating academic excellence and resilience. The ceremony, which commenced on Monday, December 2, will run through Wednesday, December 4, 2024, featuring a series of events aimed at honoring graduates and their achievements.
The opening day witnessed the conferment of degrees on graduates from five faculties: Communication and Information Sciences, Law, Education, Arts, and Basic Medical and Applied Sciences. The university campus was abuzz with excitement as students, parents, and well-wishers gathered to mark this significant milestone.
In her emotional reflection, Ajayi Oluwabukola, a Public Health graduate, described her academic journey as both challenging and fulfilling. “Balancing motherhood and studies was not an easy task, but I thank God for His grace and strength,” she said, radiating joy.
Similarly, Shalom Ifechukwu, a graduate of Human Nutrition and Diabetes, recounted her story of perseverance following the loss of her father. “The journey was tough, but God has been faithful. Today is a testament to resilience and divine guidance,” she remarked.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, in his keynote address, lauded the students for their hard work and dedication. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates equipped to tackle societal challenges. “At Lead City University, we aim not just to educate but to inspire and transform lives. Today’s graduates are proof of that mission,” he said.
Boluwatife, a graduating student from the Department of Languages and Literature, expressed her gratitude to the university for equipping her with both academic and practical life skills. She highlighted how the institution encouraged her to pursue additional training outside her studies. “I was able to go through culinary training and start a business, which is now helping me,” she said. “I’m forever proud of my school.”
Parents and guardians expressed pride and gratitude, many reflecting on the sacrifices made to support their children’s education. Mrs. Olanrewaju, whose son graduated from the Faculty of Law, shared her joy. “Seeing him in his graduation gown today is a dream come true. It makes all the hard work worthwhile,” she said.
The convocation is set to continue on Tuesday, December 3, with more graduates receiving their degrees. The grand finale, scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, will include the conferment of honorary degrees also.
