The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has made a remarkable achievement by clinching the first position at the 2025 CITN National Tax Debate Competition. The competition, which brought together top universities from across the country, showcased the intellectual prowess of students in the field of taxation.
The star of the competition, Titiloye Korede Joshua, a student of Accounting, was crowned the Tax Debate Winner. Joshua’s exceptional performance was complemented by his team members, Aderemi Bukola Serifat from Economics, Fasasi Abraham from Business Administration, and Yusuf Lateef Ife from Accounting.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof Olubunmi Shittu, expressed pride in the students’ achievement, stating that “This remarkable achievement is a testament to the quality of students we are nurturing at FUOYE.” Prof Shittu further commended the team for their dedication, brilliance, and composure throughout the competition.
Dr. Osmond C. Agu, Staff Adviser to the FUOYE Tax Club, also praised the students for their exceptional display of knowledge, confidence, and teamwork. According to Dr. Agu, these qualities stood out remarkably throughout the competition.
Babcock University and the University of Ilorin secured the second and third positions, respectively, in the highly competitive event. The competition served as a platform for students to showcase their intellectual capabilities and engage in stimulating discussions on taxation and economic discourse.
The CITN National Tax Debate Competition provides a platform for students to engage with industry professionals and showcase their knowledge and skills. FUOYE’s emergence as the winner is a testament to the university’s dedication to fostering academic excellence.
