The Chief Executive Officer of Educare and a vocal advocate for exam integrity and student welfare, Alex Onyia, has raised serious concerns over the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s (JAMB) alleged invalidation of the university admission of a Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) graduate, Jamiu Bashola, describing the situation as a national emergency.
Onyia, via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @winexviv, condemned the alleged action by JAMB, questioning the integrity of its system and calling for the immediate replacement of its vendors.
“There is something clearly wrong with JAMB’s system. Their current vendors need to be replaced. This is now a national threat to thousands of students,” he said.
The education advocate expressed deep sympathy for Bashola, an orphan, whose case, he said, touched him in a unique way.
“I’ve received several similar complaints from students, but this particular case of Basola Jamiu Owodunni is heart-breaking. After spending seven years—five academic years and two due to ASUU strikes—to earn a degree in Civil Engineering with a CGPA of 4.41, JAMB is now claiming his admission was fake.”
Bashola, who graduated in 2024, has reportedly been denied access to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and other post-graduation opportunities. Onyia described him as a determined student who worked on construction sites to fund his education.
“This is someone who hustled from site to site to sponsor himself, who was a respected academic tutor in his school fellowship, and still came out with flying colours. Now JAMB is not only discrediting his admission but has also locked his personal portal, making it impossible for him to retrieve his admission history,” Onyia added.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Education News earlier reported that Jamiu Bashola, a graduate of Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, had raised the alarm after JAMB allegedly declared his admission fake. This, he said, was despite possessing both JAMB and FUTA admission letters and fulfilling all academic requirements. He appealed to relevant authorities and concerned Nigerians to intervene and ensure that justice is done.
