President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh set of appointments across key education agencies, including the National Examinations Council, the National Board for Technical Education, a federal polytechnic in Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.
Among the appointments, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been named Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while the Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will continue in his current role.
The President also appointed Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, following the expiration of the tenure of the institution’s pioneer rector. His appointment is for a single term of five years.
For the NBTE, Professor Babatunde Salako has been appointed as Chairman. In addition, the President renewed the tenure of the Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final five-year term.
Professor Adelabu, a retired academic in educational administration, previously served at Obafemi Awolowo University and has held public office as a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State. She also earlier chaired the NBTE.
Professor Salako brings extensive experience in research and institutional leadership, having previously led the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research as Director General, where he oversaw reforms and expanded research collaborations.
In the National Library, President Tinubu approved the reappointment of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director General and Chief Executive Officer for a final five-year term. She was first appointed in 2021.
During her tenure, Anunobi has driven several initiatives aimed at modernising the library system, including digital projects such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library, alongside efforts to complete the institution’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the renewal is intended to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms and the implementation of the National Library’s long-term strategic plan.
The latest appointments signal continued efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen leadership across education institutions and sustain ongoing reforms within the sector.
