The National Sports Commission has congratulated Team Nigeria for their impressive participation at the opening ceremony of the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany, where Nigerian student-athletes marched in with pride, purpose, and unity.
Leading the Nigerian contingent was Hope Udoaka, the country’s top-ranked table tennis player, who proudly served as the nation’s flag bearer. The delegation includes athletes, coaches, and officials from the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA), competing in Athletics, Judo, Badminton, Taekwondo, and Table Tennis.
The National Sports Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigerian student-athletes on the global stage, describing the moment as a significant milestone in the country’s university sports development journey.
“Nigeria is proud to see our young athletes take their place among the world’s best. This is more than a competition, it’s a statement of excellence and ambition,” the Commission said in a statement.
Present at the opening ceremony were Dr. Alayode Ajibola, Sports Director of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), and Prof. Musa Yakasai, Chairman of NUGA’s Technical Committee. Dr. Ajibola, who also serves as NUGA’s Vice President, is leading the Nigerian delegation in Germany.
