The executives and members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Ado-Ekiti & District Society, paid a courtesy visit to the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS) on Friday as part of activities marking the 2025 International Accounting Week celebration in Ado-Ekiti.
This year’s theme, “Our Youth, Our Future,” emphasizes the significance of the accounting profession in nation-building and aims to inspire young professionals to embrace integrity, transparency, and ethical financial practices as a foundation for sustainable development.
During the visit, the Chairman of ICAN Ado-Ekiti & District Society, Mrs. Olufunso Oludare, presented a recognition plaque to the Executive Chairman of EKIRS, Mr. Olaniran Olatona, in appreciation of his exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing efficient tax administration and transparency in Ekiti State.
Mrs. Oludare praised EKIRS for its numerous reforms and consistent efforts to improve tax processes through digital innovations, capacity development, and fiscal responsibility. She described the collaboration between ICAN and EKIRS as a reflection of sound financial management and accountability in the state’s economic system.
She further stressed that the ongoing partnership would continue to promote financial discipline, youth mentorship, and professional excellence, thereby ensuring that future generations of accountants uphold ethical standards and contribute meaningfully to economic development.
In his response, Mr. Olaniran Olatona expressed gratitude to ICAN for the recognition and reiterated EKIRS’ commitment to maintaining global best practices in revenue collection and financial administration. He commended ICAN for its role in shaping responsible financial governance and building public confidence through advocacy and education.
The event also featured interactive sessions between ICAN members and EKIRS officials, during which both organizations discussed strategies for strengthening collaboration, improving tax education, and fostering youth participation in financial management.
Other dignitaries at the visit included Dr. Adebayo Osesusi, Vice-Chairman of ICAN Ado-Ekiti & District Society; Prince Adeniyi Ayodeji Oyebade, immediate past Chairman and Patron; and other members of the district society. The visit ended with group photographs and renewed pledges to uphold professionalism, accountability, and service to the public good.
