Adding to the excitement, Modibbo Adama University, Yola (MAU) pulled off a narrow but impressive 45–41 victory over Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) in a high-tension match that blended sportsmanship with cultural flair. The game was as entertaining off the court as it was on it, as fans from both sides filled the arena with colorful chants, songs, and drumming that reflected Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity.
Elsewhere, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) female team displayed dominance in their encounter against Lagos State University (LASU), securing a convincing 52–26 win. The ABU ladies showcased excellent ball coordination and sharp shooting, outpacing LASU in all four quarters of the game to establish themselves as strong contenders for the knockout stages.

In the male category, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) outclassed Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Makurdi (MOUAU) with a 26–18 victory. The FUTA team, known for their strategic passing and defensive discipline, maintained control of the game from the opening whistle to the final buzzer, marking an important win in their campaign for qualification to the next round.
The host institution, University of Jos (UNIJOS), also lived up to expectations as their female basketball team delighted home fans with a spectacular 68–22 triumph over Osun State University (UNIOSUN). The arena erupted in cheers as the UNIJOS ladies put on a breathtaking performance, showcasing both offensive flair and defensive precision. Their teamwork and composure throughout the game underscored their determination to make the host university proud.
Meanwhile, Nile University, Abuja male basketball team also had reason to celebrate as they defeated University of Benin (UNIBEN) 52–32 in a thrilling contest. The Nile University side displayed high-level athleticism, coordination, and shooting accuracy, effectively dismantling UNIBEN’s defense and consolidating their place as one of the top-performing teams in the tournament so far.

To round off the day’s basketball action, the female team of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) stunned spectators with a well-earned 39–17 victory over Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD). NSUK’s players showed impressive energy, teamwork, and commitment, capitalizing on every scoring opportunity to secure a comfortable win.
