The National Youth Service Corps and the Nigeria Police Force have reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration aimed at improving the safety of corps members across the country.
This was disclosed during a visit by the NYSC Director General, Olakunle Nafiu, to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, Nafiu commended the police for their continued support to NYSC operations, noting that the force has played a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the scheme over the years.
He called for sustained efforts to guarantee the security of corps members and NYSC officials, both within orientation camps and at their places of primary assignment.
The NYSC boss also urged the police to ensure the protection of corps lodges and personal property, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Nafiu further raised the issue of exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy, noting that the NYSC Act exempts members of the armed forces and paramilitary agencies from national service.
In his response, Disu assured that the police would continue to support the scheme, adding that the force already has records of corps lodges nationwide to aid timely response when needed.
He also described the proposal on exemption certificates for Police Academy graduates as appropriate, pledging continued cooperation between both institutions.
