The Augustine University Ilara-Epe has taken a major step toward redefining its future direction as it convened a high-level Strategic Plan Summit aimed at repositioning the institution for long-term growth, innovation, and global competitiveness.
The summit, held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the University Convocation Hall in Ilara-Epe, brought together top management officials, deans, directors, heads of departments, unit leaders, and student representatives to deliberate on a new developmental roadmap for the institution.
The gathering featured renowned strategist and academic, Chris Ogbechie, former Dean and Professor of Strategic Planning at the Lagos Business School, who served as guest consultant for the summit and is also a member of the university’s Governing Council.
The summit was convened to articulate a clear strategic direction that aligns Augustine University with emerging global trends in higher education, especially in areas of innovation, digital transformation, and institutional competitiveness.
In his presentation, Ogbechie highlighted shifting global dynamics in education, noting that modern learners increasingly demand relevance, flexibility, affordability, accessibility, and personalised learning experiences supported by digital platforms.
He stressed that universities must evolve beyond traditional teaching models to remain relevant in a fast-changing knowledge economy driven by technology and innovation.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Anthony Alaba Akinwale, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and faith-based education, describing the summit as a critical milestone in the university’s growth journey.
He noted that the strategic plan would help consolidate Augustine University’s identity while strengthening its capacity to compete both locally and internationally.
The Registrar, Margaret Aziba, provided historical insights into the establishment of the university, tracing its evolution since 2015 and highlighting its steady progress in delivering value-driven education.
She emphasized that the institution was founded on a clear vision and mission anchored on quality education, moral values, and academic excellence, which continue to guide its development trajectory.
A key feature of the summit was the breakout sessions, where stakeholders engaged in detailed discussions on refining the university’s vision, mission, and core values to reflect current realities and future ambitions.
Participants also conducted a SWOT analysis to assess institutional strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, with a view to identifying strategic priorities for sustainable growth.
The sessions further explored key strategic pillars, performance enablers, stakeholder expectations, and competitive positioning within Nigeria’s and the global higher education landscape.
Attention was also given to defining expected outcomes from faculties and departments by 2032, signalling a long-term planning horizon aimed at measurable institutional transformation.
Stakeholders at the summit agreed on the need to strengthen academic quality, expand digital learning capacity, and enhance research output to improve the university’s global visibility.
The event ended with a shared commitment to reposition Augustine University as a forward-looking institution capable of producing graduates equipped for the demands of a rapidly evolving world.
With the strategic framework now in motion, the university says it is focused on building a stronger academic ecosystem that balances faith-based values with innovation-driven education.
