Lagos State University has emerged as the top-performing institution at the 2026 National Open Kickboxing Championship, clinching a total of 19 medals at the week-long competition held in Abuja.
The championship, which took place at the National Stadium Abuja from April 13 to 19, featured about 15 teams from across the country.
LASU’s team delivered a standout performance, securing eight gold, six silver, and five bronze medals to finish ahead of other competing institutions.
Faruq Saheed and Bright Uwatse led the medal charge with two gold medals each, while Faesol Fasasi, Opeyemi Adeyemi, and Aishat Adeshina each recorded one gold and one silver medal.
Raheem Olutusin added one gold and one bronze, while Rejoice Kowop secured a silver and a bronze. Christopher Ojo claimed two silver medals, while Philip Olatunji and Opeyemi Lawal contributed bronze medals to the tally.
The result means that all ten athletes representing LASU returned with at least one medal, underscoring the team’s depth and consistency throughout the competition.
The team was led by the Director of Sports and Recreation, Idowu Owoyemi, alongside four officials.
The performance reinforces LASU’s growing reputation in university sports and highlights the role of structured athletic programmes in student development and national sports advancement.
