The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has reaffirmed the promise made by the Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) regarding the payment of the delayed N77,000 allowance for corps members.
Speaking on the Today’s Politics program on Channel TV, Olawande assured that corps members would receive their March allowance of N77,000 by the end of this week. He also confirmed that the delayed payments would be settled, though not immediately.
Olawande explained that the new allowance structure was not initially included in the budget when it was first announced, and it had to be included in the national budget before it could be approved for payment.
“Before anything can be approved, there must be a budgetary allocation for it,” he said.
He further confirmed that the necessary budgetary allocation had now been made, the approval process completed, and the green light given. “The payment will be made by the end of this week,” he promised.
On the backlog payments, Olawande assured corps members that efforts are underway to address the backlog, though he cautioned that it may take some time before it is fully resolved.
“Myself and the DG have had discussions on this matter. We have taken the necessary steps and submitted our documents. We’ve been working on it for a while, and it will work out,” he added.
