In a move that has been widely welcomed by staff and stakeholders, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially lifted the 10-year embargo on staff promotions at the Dr. Ogbknanaya Onu Polytechnic (formerly Abia State Polytechnic) in Aba. The embargo had been imposed by the immediate past administration in the state.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ukoha Njoku, in Umuahia. Njoku announced that Governor Otti had approved the release of all accumulated staff promotions, bringing an end to the prolonged stagnation.
Also, the governor abolished the controversial “National Promotions” practice that had been in place at the institution, a decision that is expected to streamline promotion processes moving forward.
Njoku further revealed that the staff of the Polytechnic expressed their gratitude to the governor, not only for addressing the long-standing promotion issue but also for honoring his commitment to clear 33 months of salary arrears owed to them by the previous administration.
“The staff are highly appreciative of the governor’s efforts to ensure the regular payment of their salaries as and when due, alongside significant infrastructural improvements aimed at raising the standard of the institution,” Njoku stated.
