The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission Plateau State Office, has conducted a statewide advocacy and community mapping exercise aimed at addressing the challenge of out-of-school children.
The initiative, which ran from March 16 to April 2, 2026, targeted communities across all 17 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in the state.
As part of the exercise, advocacy sessions were held at the headquarters of the three senatorial districts, bringing together key stakeholders in the education sector.
Participants included Education Secretaries, members of School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), as well as community and religious leaders, who were sensitised on the objectives of the programme.
The community mapping component focused on identifying areas with a high number of out-of-school children, with the aim of generating data to guide targeted interventions.
Officials noted that the combined approach of advocacy and data gathering is expected to strengthen enrolment strategies and improve access to basic education across the state.
