The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has scheduled its 2026 policy meeting on admissions for May 11, setting the stage for key decisions that will shape entry into tertiary institutions for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The meeting will hold at the Body of Benchers Auditorium in Jabi, Abuja, and is expected to bring together major stakeholders across Nigeria’s higher education system.
At the centre of the gathering is the anticipated policy direction from the Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, who is expected to outline government priorities for admissions and broader sector reforms.
The annual policy meeting serves as the platform where minimum Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination scores, admission guidelines, and regulatory frameworks are discussed and agreed upon.
It also formally signals the commencement of the admission cycle, with institutions expected to align strictly with resolutions reached at the meeting.
Participants will include vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, and admission officers from institutions across the country. Representatives of key regulatory agencies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) are also expected to attend.
Other stakeholders, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), will deliver goodwill messages.
A major highlight of the event will be the sixth edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Awards, which recognises institutions that comply with admission guidelines and demonstrate transparency in their processes.
The policy meeting remains one of the most significant events in Nigeria’s education calendar, as its resolutions directly influence access to tertiary education and the standards institutions are required to maintain.
