Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the immediate revitalisation of the Safe School Initiative across the state following recent abductions involving students and teachers in neighbouring Oyo State.
The governor disclosed this while announcing a series of proactive security measures aimed at preventing any possible spillover of insecurity into Osun communities and schools.
According to him, intelligence gathering around rural and border communities will be intensified, while the Osun Amotekun Corps has also been directed to strengthen collaboration with community peace and security groups.
Adeleke further directed the Commissioner for Education and the State Security Adviser to meet and develop an updated implementation framework for the strengthened school safety plan.
“Following recent school kidnappings in our neighboring Oyo State, I have ordered the immediate revitalization of the Safe School Initiative as a precautionary step to prevent any spillover into Osun State,” the governor stated.
He assured parents, school authorities, and residents that the state government remains committed to protecting pupils and educational institutions across Osun State.
“To every parent and school authority in Osun State, hear me clearly: We are resolved to secure our pupils across our schools. The existing safe school plan will be strengthened. Your children are safe and our schools are protected,” he added.
The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity around schools following the reported abduction of students, teachers, and school officials in parts of Oyo State, which has triggered nationwide reactions and renewed conversations around school safety across Nigeria.
