The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has formally admitted a new set of students into its special academic programmes for the 2025/2026 session, with the Vice-Chancellor charging them to uphold the institution’s values and pursue excellence.
The matriculation ceremony, which brought together students of the Top-Up Degree Programme, School of Professional Development (SPD), and Open Distance Learning Centre (ODLC), was held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the T.I. Francis Auditorium on the university campus.
Addressing the students, Vice-Chancellor Adenike Oladiji urged them to remain guided by discipline, integrity, and commitment throughout their academic journey.
“As you begin this journey, the values you uphold will go a long way in defining your career and shaping the image of this university. I encourage you to be worthy ambassadors of FUTA wherever you find yourselves,” she said.
The Vice-Chancellor advised the newly admitted students to familiarise themselves with the institution’s rules and regulations, stressing that adherence to them is key to academic success. She added that focus, hard work, and discipline would guarantee meaningful achievements during their time in the university.
Oladiji noted that the introduction and expansion of FUTA’s special programmes reflect the institution’s commitment to widening access to higher education. According to her, the Top-Up, SPD, and ODLC programmes are designed to provide flexible learning opportunities for working professionals, entrepreneurs, artisans, and individuals seeking to upgrade their qualifications without disrupting their existing engagements.
“These programmes are a deliberate response to the growing need for inclusive and flexible education. They allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to acquire relevant knowledge while maintaining their commitments,” she explained.
At the ceremony, the Director of the School of Professional Development, Fakokunde Olubamiji, the Director of the Open Distance Learning Programme, Felix Alao, and Acting Director of the Top-Up Programme, Akinwonmi Emmanuel, formally presented the students for the matriculation oath.
The oath was subsequently administered by the Registrar, Charles Adeleye, marking the students’ official entry into the university community.
Some of the matriculating students who spoke at the event expressed satisfaction with the structure and flexibility of the programmes. Ayodele Emmanuel (ODLC), Babatunde Titilayo (SPD), and Ali Mudashiru (Top-Up) described the learning system as convenient and enriching.
Mudashiru noted that the Top-Up programme offers him the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree from FUTA, while maintaining other commitments.
The ceremony underscored FUTA’s continued push towards innovative and inclusive education, positioning the university as a key player in expanding access to quality learning in Nigeria.
